Leaving boarding school for the holidays, Anna, 14, goes home to Britain for her confirmation. But when she arrives, the girl learns that her father has just left home to go live with another woman. In shock, Anna's very religious mother tries to find solace through the local priest. Meanwhile, Anna takes care of her paternal grandfather, who is bedridden. However, through her conversations with the old man and his anti-religious ideas, and her contact with a boy who awakens emotions and desires she's never before experienced, the teen begins to doubt her faith.
